Published Words is owned and operated by two highly experienced writer/editors with extensive backgrounds at prestigious financial publications.


Richard H. Bierck, Founding Partner

Bierck is a writer and editor with more than 30 years of experience who has written and edited thousands of financial articles published in prestigious magazines, specialized newsletters and websites. He founded Published Words in 2009.

Bierck is former managing editor of Financial Planning magazine, where he worked closely with industry experts, writing articles on investment management, wealth management and estate planning. He also served as contributing editor of Bloomberg Wealth Manager, writing articles on equity and fixed income strategies, finance research, advisor marketing, practice management and compliance.

As editor of Base and Bonus, a specialized newsletter for corporate directors, he assigned, wrote and edited technical articles on best practices, innovations and trends in executive compensation and benefits at Fortune 1000 companies.

Bierck was a contributing editor for two Harvard Business Review publications, the Harvard Management Letter and the Harvard Management Communication Letter, where he wrote articles on innovations in strategic corporate communications and image management. He is co-author of the book, "The Harvard Guide to Better Business Writing."

As contributing editor for Bloomberg L.P., Bierck wrote articles on institutional investing for Bloomberg Markets magazine and individual investing for Bloomberg Personal Finance magazine. He was a special business/technology correspondent for U.S. News & World Report, consumer editor/columnist for Money magazine's Money.com and equity portfolios editor for Worth magazine's Worth.com. Previously, he was a staff reporter for large daily newspapers, including The Pittsburgh Press.

Bierck has an AB in English literature from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and did advanced course work/study in the university's School of Journalism, writing for publication. He lives in Princeton, N.J.

 

W. Douglas McGuire, MBA, Partner

McGuire has more than 25 years of experience in finance and financial publishing, including tenures in key marketing communications positions at major financial institutions and in management roles at prominent print and web publications.

His previous positions include vice president for communications at Citibank in New York and vice president for marketing and development at Foliofn, a highly regarded securities trading and research platform where he spearheaded critical marketing initiatives and supervised corporate communications.

As financial editor for ABCnews.com, he assigned articles on investment markets and edited specialty columns from independent financial planners and wealth managers. As senior financial editor for Consumer Reports, he supervised in-depth studies of retail investment and insurance products and wrote cover articles on findings. McGuire is co-author of The Consumer Reports Money Book, a definitive guide to personal finance.

He is former executive editor of Bloomberg Personal Finance magazine, where he generated articles on equity funds and fixed-income investments, and worked closely with renowned portfolio managers, developing and editing their specialty columns. McGuire also served as editor-in-chief and digital development director for Money magazine's website, Money.com, where he innovated new web presentation styles.

He was senior editor for market features at Smart Money magazine's Smartmoney.com and markets editor for the Bloomberg Professional Service, where he supervised coverage of securities trading, corporate and economic news.

McGuire holds an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a BA in history and economics from Connecticut State University. He lives in Princeton Junction, N.J.
 

Jonathan Gregg, Chief Copy Editor

Gregg edits the firm's compositions for clarity, grammar, punctuation, style and consistency.

He has been an editor for more than 25 years. This experience includes serving as senior editor for Time.com and as chief copy editor for the various print and web publications of Money-Media, a Financial Times company that publishes specialized newsletters for institutional investors, wealth managers and corporate directors.

Gregg has served as an editor for numerous financial and general interest magazines, including Institutional Investor, Financial World, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler and Premiere. He has also worked for major book-publishing houses in New York, copy-editing and fact-checking the manuscripts of renowned authors. Gregg received a BA in French literature from Brown University. He lives in Manhattan.
